Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew and his cabinet have continued to throw their full support behind Mikyle Louis ahead of his Test debut as part of the West Indies cricket team this July.
Louis, 23, is the first Kittitian to be named to the 15-man Windies senior squad who tour England this summer.
The young cricketer, who was already on the rise, distinguished himself further during the 2024 West Indies Championship in which he was the leading run scorer with an impressive 682 runs from 14 innings in 7 matches, averaging 48.71.
He was also one of only three cricketers in the tournament to score four or more half-centuries.
This outstanding performance has him tipped to stand in the wicket along with captain Kraigg Brathwaite as his partner opening batsman.
Louis now joins Nevisians Elquemedo Willett, Stewart Williams, Keith Arthurton, and Runako Morton as nationals who have rendered outstanding service to the region as members of the West Indies Test team.
In honour and recognition of his achievement, the Cabinet of Ministers agreed unanimously that Louis would receive a grant of $10,000.00 which will be used to help him prepare ahead of the England tour.
Additionally, the South Stands at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium will be named in his honour, a parcel of land will be transferred to him and a road will be given his name.
On Monday this week, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew said it is his hope that the street Louis grew up on will be chosen to bear his name.
The move to give national recognition to Louis for his achievement was advanced by the Ministry of Sports which is led by Samal Duggins.
Having received cabinet’s approval, it was noted that formal ceremonies will be arranged to bestow Louis’ honours upon him.
