Prime Minister Drew, was joined by Glenroy Blanchette, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, and the Police and Defence Force High Commands for an emergency meeting at Police Headquarters on Sunday aimed at reviewing homicides and creating an effective strategy to combat the issue.

According to a press release from the Police High Command, the Police and Defence Force shared detailed data related to recent incidents which identified patterns and potential causes for these homicides. The following discussion focused on both immediate and long-term measures to address the problem, such as increased security forces community patrols, strategic deployments, enhanced intelligence operations, and community engagement initiatives.

All stakeholders at the meeting committed to utilising all available resources to arrest crime and violence.

Following the meeting the prime minister offered his assurance that the safety and security of the general public remains a priority to his administration.

This weekend’s’ emergency meeting followed the confirmation of two murders over the last 48 hours. They have brought the count to 19 homicides in St. Kitts and Nevis since the start of 2024.
