Minister of Sport, Samal Duggins, will participate in the 11th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting (11CSMM) in Paris, France, later this week. This important gathering will take place on the margins of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games which are being held from 26th July to 11th August.
The theme for this year’s meeting is Building Inclusive and Resilient Societies through Sport. The conference aims to foster Commonwealth consensus and cooperation on key sports policies and practice issues and reinforce the role of sports as a vehicle for positive social change.
The meeting will encourage specific interventions by member states and other stakeholders to accelerate and sustain the implementation of the 10 Guiding Actions outlined in the Commonwealth Consensus Statement on Promoting Human Rights, in and through sport.
The attending ministers will also discuss strategies to combat the burden of non-communicable diseases in member states through sport and physical activity, highlighting the importance of active lifestyles in improving public health; the development and implementation of safeguarding guidelines, frameworks, and legislation to protect participants in sports at all levels; and the importance of good governance and integrity in sports organisations, encouraging transparency and accountability across the Commonwealth.
This year’s meeting on 25th July, is being hosted by the Government of Canada and will reflect on the continued commitment of Commonwealth nations to collaborate on vital issues facing sports today.
