Earlier today a coordinated search operation was conducted at His Majesty’s Prison by the Security Forces comprising the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force, and prison security personnel.
The 23rd July operation was part of ongoing efforts by security forces to uphold the integrity and security of the correctional facility.
The search resulted in the confiscation of several unauthorised items, including five (5) cell phones, nineteen (19) chargers, three (3) charger heads, one (1) extension cord, eleven (11) cigarette lighters, one (1) razor, one (1) Gameboy gaming system, one (1) iron file, one (1) pair of scissors, screwdrivers, several shanks, a quantity of cannabis and tobacco, and seven (7) bottles of homemade wine.
In response to this discovery, the institution is implementing necessary measures to minimise future compromises in security.
The primary objective of the search was to locate and confiscate unauthorised items to ensure a safe environment and reduce the risk of violence among inmates or against staff.
Commissioner of Corrections, Franklyn Dorset, emphasised the importance of these operations.
“We will continue to work diligently to uphold the integrity of our correctional facilities and protect the wellbeing of all individuals within our care,” he stated.
Commissioner of Police, James Sutton, also highlighted the critical role of inter-agency collaborations in maintaining security. He noted that these search operations are vital in the continued efforts to combat crime and violence within the Federation.
Today’s search operation is part of a broader initiative to ensure the safety of the prison and wider community and maintain order within the nation’s correctional facility.
