Man shot dead in Piat lost 12-year-old son in 2018 drive-by shooting

The family of Gregory Louison, who was brutally gunned down on Wednesday evening, remains in shock as they grapple with the tragic loss. Louison, 54, was shot just 100 yards from his home in Piat, Grande Riviere, leaving his loved ones devastated and seeking answers.

Editha Louison, Gregory’s sister, described the moment she learned of her brother’s death. “I was getting ready for bed when my other brother told me Gregory was shot. He was lying motionless in the middle of the road. It’s unbelievable, I still can’t believe it,” she said, her voice heavy with grief.

According to residents, gunmen had been lying in wait in nearby bushes before ambushing Gregory and firing two shots. Officers from the Babonneau Fire Station responded to an emergency call around 10 pm. Upon arrival, they found Gregory lying face down in the middle of the road with a gunshot wound to his forehead, showing clear signs of death.

The family is struggling to understand why Gregory was targeted. “I don’t know why someone would do this,” Editha said. “He liked to drink, and sometimes he’d get rowdy, but that’s no reason for this. He didn’t deserve to die this way.”

This tragedy is not the first time violence has struck the Louison family. Gregory’s 12-year-old son, Rohan Louison, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Desrameaux, Monchy in September 2018. The family is now reeling from the loss of both father and son to gun violence.

Editha, who now bears the burden of caring for their elderly mother, expressed her heartbreak. “I have to be strong for my family, but this is so hard. Nobody had to kill him like this. Taking a life is not something easy. It’s a life you end, and we’re left with the pain.”

Despite the shock, Editha recalled her brother with fondness. “He was a jack of all trades. A good painter, he did masonry, repaired boats, and loved grazing animals. Yes, he drank, and sometimes it got out of control, but he was my brother, my blood.”

She issued a plea to the criminal elements that have cast a shadow over Saint Lucia, which now counts 57 homicides for the year. “It’s too much. This has to stop. We hear about others being killed, but when it hits your own family, it’s unbearable. This violence cannot continue.”

Gregory Louison leaves behind a daughter and a grandson. The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) is urging anyone with information regarding this homicide to contact the Gros-Islet Police Station at 456-3830. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the Crime Hotline (555) or the RSLPF Crime Hotline App.
