The St. Kitts and Nevis National Queen Pageant has announced its six outstanding contestants for the event scheduled for 19th December, as part of the Sugar Mas 53.
The contestants revealed at a 17th September ceremony are Jutambien Kelly, Vanessa Simon, Daneika Dickenson, Tyanna Richards, Tonia Manners, and Mikaya Collins. These contestants were chosen through a rigorous selection process, as explained by National Carnival chairperson, Shannon Hawley.
Sugar Mas 53 is considered one of the most prominent Carnival celebrations in the Caribbean. Minister with responsibility for Carnival, Samal Duggins, emphasised that the National Carnival Committee is working diligently to maintain and improve on the carnival’s reputation as one of the premier festivals in the region.
The Committee has also introduced several changes to enhance the event, including setting a 1st November deadline for the release of Road March tunes.
A deadline for the launch of Groovy Soca songs is expected to be announced shortly.
Additionally, this year’s festivities will feature a separate swimsuit pageant.
“This year we are introducing a swimsuit [competition] showcase featuring the National Carnival Queen contestants, our ambassadors.
“It will be judged in 2 segments. The contestants will be able to rock 2 swimsuits in that appearance. We have decided to do that to garner additional excitement for the show as well as to ensure that on the 19th of December, that the show’s timeframe will be reduced significantly,” Hawley revealed.
The committee is also collaborating with prominent social influencers across the Caribbean to promote Sugar Mas as a premier carnival experience.
The early reveal and launch are designed to help nationals and visitors prepare for the upcoming festivities, which officially begin on 13th December.
In his remarks, Minister Duggins integrated the 2024 theme, “The only place to be: Sugar Mas 53.”
