Minister Duggins announces scholarships in Agriculture through partnership with Southern University

In an exciting new initiative to enhance the nation’s agricultural sector, Minister of Agriculture, Samal Duggins has that five (5) full undergraduate scholarships will be available annually for citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis through a strategic partnership with Southern University. 

This initiative reflects the government’s ongoing commitment, under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Terrence Drew, to foster a robust agricultural sector.  


The scholarships will enable students to pursue studies in various disciplines, including Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Animal Science, Plant and Soil Science, and Pre-Veterinary Medicine. 

The initiative aims to equip the next generation of agricultural leaders with the essential skills and knowledge needed to strengthen and innovate within the local agricultural sector.

Minister Duggins expressed enthusiasm for this opportunity, stating, “I am excited to announce this remarkable initiative that will provide our citizens with access to quality education in agriculture. Through our partnership with Southern University, we are paving the way for our bright minds to gain invaluable expertise that will ultimately benefit our agricultural landscape.”

This scholarship programme is a testament to the government’s ongoing efforts to expand access to education, promote innovation, and cultivate a skilled workforce capable of driving sustainable development.

“Our farmers, entrepreneurs, and agricultural leaders of tomorrow will have the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to thrive in an increasingly competitive global market,” added Minister Duggins.
