New Mentorship Programme Launched to Empower Future Leaders in St. Kitts and Nevis

Young people in St. Kitts and Nevis now have a new platform for mentorship and professional growth with the launch of TrailBlaze SKN, an initiative developed to foster personal and academic development among ambitious students. Founded by H. E. Dr. Hadiya Claxton, TrailBlaze SKN aims to connect young learners with experienced professionals for tailored mentorship, focusing on building leadership skills, educational advancement, and career readiness.

The programme, open to students from 4th to 6th Form in secondary schools and colleges across the Federation, will be selecting one to three students from each school who exhibit a commitment to excellence and leadership.

Students are required to be recommended by a school official—such as a Principal or Guidance Counsellor—and must submit an essay outlining their personal goals, along with a recommendation letter. Applications are due by 30th November, 2024 and should be submitted to trailblazeskn@gmail.com. .

TrailBlaze SKN will connect selected students with mentors from a variety of fields, aiming to match mentors and mentees based on shared interests. Dr. Claxton emphasised that the programme is about “unlocking potential and giving students the guidance they need to thrive.”

Co-directing alongside Dr. Claxton is Vicki Anslyn, a senior executive with extensive experience in global consulting and a deep commitment to empowering young leaders from her native Nevis and beyond.

Beyond offering mentorship to students, TrailBlaze SKN is actively seeking experienced professionals in St. Kitts and Nevis and from the Caribbean diaspora to participate as mentors. Those interested in mentoring are invited to submit a resume to the programme’s email.

This launch follows Dr. Claxton’s announcement of the programme during the Federation’s Independence celebrations this year, as part of a larger vision for a “self-sustaining network of skilled, confident youth.”

Mentorship will centre on practical skills and academic support, equipping students to navigate both educational and professional landscapes with confidence.

With its focus on personal growth, skill-building, and networking, TrailBlaze SKN positions itself as a significant tool for youth empowerment, providing young people with the resources and connections to achieve their potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
