At the recent Budget 2025 National Forum on 31st October, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew provided an update on the ambitious Police out post at Lime Kiln, designed to modernise policing and reinforce public safety across St. Kitts and Nevis. With significant advancements in the project, Prime Minister Drew highlighted it as a cornerstone in the government’s plan to equip law enforcement with the tools and infrastructure needed to enhance community security.
“The Lime Kiln facility will serve as a cornerstone for modernising our police force and improving community safety,” Dr. Drew remarked, underscoring the project’s role in building a more effective and responsive law enforcement system.
Supported by funding from the European Union, new home of the Traffic Department aims to create a state-of-the-art facility that will include an advanced training centre and an operational headquarters tailored to current and future policing needs.
A recent engineering assessment of the site has identified critical areas for repair and upgrade, ensuring that the facility will be fully prepared for its operational duties. Prime Minister Drew explained that these findings are aligned with the government’s broader focus on prioritising public safety and security as essential pillars for national growth.
In addition to boosting security, the Lime Kiln Project is expected to contribute positively to the local economy. “As construction progresses, we anticipate the creation of numerous job opportunities for our citizens, which will drive economic growth and support community empowerment,” Prime Minister Drew noted.
The new Trrafic department is part of a comprehensive national strategy aimed at reducing crime and improving safety. This initiative, led by the Ministry of National Security, includes investing in modern technology and advanced training programmes, preparing law enforcement personnel to meet emerging challenges effectively.
Prime Minister Drew affirmed the government’s commitment to completing the Lime Kiln Project within the upcoming fiscal year, a milestone that will mark a transformative step in securing a safer environment for residents. “Our citizens deserve a safe environment where they can thrive, and the Lime Kiln Project is a pivotal move in that direction,” he concluded.
