The Joseph N. France (JNF) General Hospital is preparing to introduce a third operating theatre, marking a significant enhancement to its surgical capacity. This cutting-edge facility, primarily designed to address maternity needs, will also function as an emergency theatre, enabling the hospital to respond more efficiently to critical situations.
The project is made possible through the dedicated support of the St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board (SSB), which has not only funded the construction of the new theatre but also contributed advanced surgical equipment for the hospital’s main operating rooms. These tools are integral to modern procedures, including minimally invasive endoscopic surgeries, setting a new benchmark for healthcare services in the Federation.
Highlighting the impact of these advancements, the hospital recently played a key role during the Caribbean Society of Endoscopic Surgeons Conference. From 14th–16th November, attendees worldwide witnessed live-streamed surgeries, such as laparoscopic gallbladder removal, hernia repair, and a hysterectomy for cancer patients, showcasing the hospital’s capability to deliver high-tech medical care.
Dr. Jenson Morton, Director of Health Institutions, emphasised the transformative nature of the partnership with the SSB. “This collaboration represents a vital step in elevating the level of healthcare at JNF General Hospital. By integrating advanced technology, we’re expanding our surgical capabilities and setting the stage for achieving international accreditation,” he stated.
The Ministry of Health has commended the SSB for its strategic investment in public health, underlining its commitment to fostering a healthier St. Kitts and Nevis. This partnership reflects the potential of joint efforts between government bodies and stakeholders to drive meaningful development.
This new operating theatre is part of a broader vision to upgrade the hospital’s facilities and meet global healthcare standards. These improvements promise enhanced service delivery, reinforcing the hospital’s dedication to providing exceptional medical care to the people of the Federation.
As the hospital moves closer to commissioning the theatre, it reaffirms its mission to create a robust healthcare system that prioritises innovation, responsiveness, and quality care.
