Two Charged with Gun Offenses; Police Committed to Citizen Security

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has charged two individuals in connection with gun-related offenses, underscoring the ongoing commitment to public safety and the promotion of citizen security within the Federation.

Tristan Richards, aged 27, of New Road, and Brianda Berridge, aged 21, of Gillard’s Meadows, were charged on 2nd December 2024 with two counts each of possession of firearm and possession of ammunition. These charges stem from an incident on 30th November 2024 in Gillard’s Meadows.

The arrests, which were made after a detailed investigation, reflect the Police Force’s ongoing dedication to tackling illegal firearms and ammunition within the Federation. Richards and Berridge have been remanded to His Majesty’s Prison pending further proceedings. Their apprehension represents a key step in ensuring that individuals who pose a threat to the safety of citizens are held accountable for their actions.

This significant law enforcement action comes just days ahead of the final engagement of the 90-Day Campaign Against Crime and Violence from a Public Health Perspective, an initiative launched by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew. The event, set for 5th December 2024, will take place at the St. Kitts Solid Waste Management Conference Room and will feature presentations by members of the Citizen Security Task Force and the Police, detailing the outcomes of the campaign over the past three months.

The 90-Day Campaign has been a cornerstone of the government’s strategy to reduce crime and violence through a collaborative, public health-focused approach. Prime Minister Drew has been a strong advocate for the idea that addressing crime goes beyond traditional law enforcement, emphasising the need for community engagement and a focus on public health to achieve lasting change.

As the 90-Day Campaign draws to a close, the partnership between the Police Force, the Citizen Security Secretariat, and local communities is set to be highlighted. The Police’s proactive approach in charging Richards and Berridge showcases the critical role law enforcement plays in supporting public safety, while the broader campaign efforts demonstrate the government’s holistic approach to creating safer communities for all.

The conclusion of the 90-Day Campaign provides an important opportunity for reflection and planning as St. Kitts and Nevis continues to address the root causes of crime and violence while building a more resilient, secure nation.
