The Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations welcomed Dr. Taoheed Olufemi Elias, Nigeria’s candidate for the International Court of Justice (ICJ), as part of the Federation’s ongoing efforts to deepen its engagement with African nations. Dr. Elias is vying for the ICJ term spanning 2027-2036.
Dr. Elias was greeted by H. E. Dr. Mutryce Williams, St. Kitts and Nevis’ Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the United Nations, along with Eustace Wallace and Mohamed Mahmud, Minister Counsellors and UN Elections Officers for St. Kitts and Nevis and Nigeria, respectively.
Dr. Williams highlighted the Federation’s commitment to strengthening ties with Africa, noting, “For St. Kitts and Nevis, it is stated policy of both the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister that we turn our geopolitical gaze to the countries and continent of Africa. This engagement represents that diplomatic directive, and the Permanent Mission is honoured to have been the first Caribbean country to host Judge Elias and to engage on critical issues ranging from climate justice, revitalising multilateralism, and pan-Africanism.”
Dr. Elias’ Impressive Credentials
Dr. Taoheed Olufemi Elias is no stranger to international diplomacy and law. Currently serving as a Judge Ad Hoc at the International Court of Justice, he boasts a distinguished career, including roles as UN Assistant Secretary-General and as Legal Adviser and Director at the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague, Netherlands.
His engagement underscores the growing collaboration between St. Kitts and Nevis and African nations on key global issues, including multilateral cooperation and climate justice.

Both nations reaffirmed their pledge to enhance engagement within the United Nations and beyond. The visit symbolises the Federation’s dedication to pan-Africanism and multilateralism, aligning with its broader foreign policy objectives.
