SKNLP Starts 93rd Anniversary Celebration with Faith-Focused Church Service

The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), the oldest political organisation in the English-speaking Caribbean, launched the celebrations of its 93rd anniversary this year with a solemn church service on 26th January, 2025. The event, held at the Good News Baptist Church, was presided over by Pastor Roydon Richards, who delivered a stirring sermon on the theme of Faithfulness: to God, country, party, and each other.

Pastor Richards anchored his message in 1 Corinthians 4:2, which states, “Moreover, it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” His sermon emphasised the divine support for leadership and the necessity of respect, humility, and accountability in governance. He reminded the congregation that while people may not always agree with their leaders, they must remain respectful, as leadership is ultimately appointed by God, not by human vote.

Faithfulness in Leadership and Governance

The pastor underscored that leaders must serve their nation with loyalty, fidelity, and truthfulness, always willing to accept counsel. He cautioned against arrogance in leadership, stressing that discernment and divine guidance are critical for those in positions of power. Leaders, he stated, should hold themselves personally accountable and remain devoted to the people they serve.

The sermon also highlighted that while man often values intellect, wealth, position, power, and success, God looks for faithfulness, loyalty, and steadfast devotion to the entrusted work. Pastor Richards reminded the congregation that the harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few, urging all to remain committed to their calling.

Truth, Accountability, and the Role of Citizens

A key takeaway from the sermon was the need for both leaders and citizens to remain truthful, even when difficult conversations must be had. Pastor Richards noted that faithfulness sometimes requires speaking hard truths, even at the risk of affecting friendships. He cautioned against blind agreement, however, stressing that accountability and holding leaders to high standards remain in the best interest of the nation.

The service marked yet another milestone in the SKNLP’s enduring legacy as the longest-serving political party in the region. As the party moves forward, the call to faithfulness and responsible leadership remains paramount in shaping the nation’s future.
