Kim Collins Athletic Stadium on Track for Mid-March Reopening, says Sport Minister

Basseterre, St. Kitts. February 3, 2025 – Minister of Sport, Hon. Samal Duggins, has assured the public that the Kim Collins Athletic Stadium will be ready to host scheduled athletics events by mid-March, following extensive renovation and rehabilitative work. Speaking on Freedom Radio last week, Minister Duggins confirmed that construction is progressing as planned, with contractors expected to complete the necessary upgrades by the end of February.

The Department of Sports has scheduled three athletics events at the facility between March 18 and 30, including the highly anticipated interschool and RAMS track meets. Concerns had been raised about whether the stadium would be ready in time, but Minister Duggins sought to ease those fears.

“I did a recent walkthrough, and the contractors are saying that they are just about ready to wrap up before the end of February,” he stated.

“REGUPOL, which is the company that is laying the synthetic surface, they are getting ready to lay that surface, as of this first week of February. I have been advised that this will take a couple of weeks, providing all goes well, weather, everything included,” the Minister added.

In addition to the track resurfacing, work on the stadium’s roofing and seating is also set to be completed by mid-February, ensuring a fully functional facility in time for the upcoming meets.

The Public Works Department, Surrey Paving, and a local contractor are working alongside REGUPOL, a global specialist in high-performance sports flooring, to deliver a timely and quality finish to the project.

Minister Duggins expressed confidence that all elements of the renovation are on schedule, providing adequate time for final preparations before the scheduled events.

“Everything is moving along… and so we should be all set and ready for going forward with the meets,” he affirmed.

Work began approximately two months ago, after extensive consultations between Government and various stakeholders.

The ongoing rehabilitative works at the Kim Collins Stadium are being done in strict compliance to World Athletics’ standards.
