Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to transforming St. Kitts and Nevis, delivering a powerful message to nationals in St. Martin during his visit for the 76th Meeting of the OECS Authority. Addressing the diaspora, he provided key updates on national advancements in energy, water security, agriculture, healthcare, digital transformation, and national security.
Driving Sustainable Progress
“St. Kitts and Nevis is really on the move. We are doing well,” Prime Minister Drew declared, underscoring his administration’s focus on achieving energy independence, enhancing food security, and modernising essential services.
Among the significant initiatives highlighted were:
- Geothermal Energy Development: The government is advancing efforts to harness geothermal energy, a critical step toward achieving energy self-sufficiency.
- Water Security: Two new desalination plants are under construction to secure a reliable and sustainable water supply.
- Agricultural Expansion: A 100-acre farm, developed in collaboration with Tabasco, is expected to create 300 jobs, strengthening the agricultural sector.

Healthcare and Digital Transformation
Prime Minister Drew also announced a landmark healthcare project, revealing that construction on a new, climate-smart hospital will commence in the coming months. He reaffirmed the government’s pledge to provide free medical care for children requiring critical treatment.
On digital transformation, the Prime Minister introduced plans for a fully digital national ID system. This initiative will enable diaspora nationals to remotely access government services, including passport applications and property tax payments, enhancing efficiency and accessibility.
Unprecedented National Security Gains
Addressing national security, Dr. Drew commended the significant strides made under his administration.
“We have seen the most quiet period that we have had for the last 23 years in our history. And so far this year, we have had no gun violence,” he stated, lauding the government’s proactive approach to crime reduction and public safety.
Engaging the Diaspora for National Development
Encouraging greater diaspora involvement, Prime Minister Drew emphasised that nationals abroad play a crucial role in the country’s progress.
“You don’t necessarily have to come back home physically, but you can contribute significantly to your country’s development, wherever you are in the world,” he affirmed.
The meeting reinforced the government’s dedication to keeping its global citizens engaged and involved in the Federation’s development. As St. Kitts and Nevis continues on its transformative path, strengthening connections with the diaspora remains a priority to ensure a shared vision for national advancement.
