Elevate Educate Inspires New Horizons Students With Confidence and Second-Chance Pathways

Students of the New Horizons Rehabilitation Center began the new academic year with renewed optimism, as Elevate Educate celebrated their successes and encouraged them to aim higher. The initiative, a cornerstone of the Elevate Programme, is designed to provide second-chance education and equip learners with the tools they need to thrive.

Project Coordinator Alicia Collins praised the students for their impressive results in the End of School Year Examinations and noted the strong performances in recent mini mock CSEC tests. “Our goal is to make education fun, meaningful, and transformative,” she said. “As the theme reminds us, their stories are still being written, and it is our responsibility to create opportunities and avenues that allow our students to weave chapters of victory, success, hope, and light.”

Tutors Antawn Thompson and Glenroy Smithen congratulated the students for exceeding expectations and urged them to embrace the 2025 school year theme, “Endless Possibilities, Your Story is Still Being Written.” One student admitted to being “very surprised” by the exam results, adding, “I can’t believe I did that kind of work!” The achievement bolstered confidence and reinforced the belief that academic success is within reach.

Director of the New Horizons Rehabilitation Center, Adele Williams, thanked the Elevate team for their dedication and encouraged students to remain steadfast in their pursuit of knowledge. The morning closed on a lighter note, with interactive games led by Collins and the tutors, ensuring the school year began with both focus and joy.

Elevate Educate offers free classes in English, Mathematics, Human and Social Biology, Principles of Business, Principles of Accounts, and Spanish. Open to New Horizons students, their families, and nearby communities, the programme provides critical preparation for CSEC examinations and second-chance opportunities for youth and adults. Registration is available through the Elevate Office on Irish Town Bay Road.

The initiative reflects Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew’s commitment to addressing crime and violence as a public health issue, a vision launched in September 2024. By prioritising education as a social determinant of community well-being, Elevate Educate aims to foster safer and stronger communities. Permanent Secretary Naeemah Hazelle reaffirmed government support: “The Prime Minister remains steadfast in his commitment to supporting our youth by creating well-rounded, holistic opportunities that integrate education, vocational training, rehabilitation, and second-chance initiatives.”
