[Cricket 360] Opener Kieran Powell scored 104 to guide the Leeward Islands Hurricanes to a two-wicket victory over Barbados Pride on the third day of their match in the West Indies Championships at the Queen’s Park Oval on Friday. Powell faced 109 balls and struck 11 fours and three sixes during his innings.
Chasing 247 to win the game, the Hurricanes reached their target before tea. Resuming at 13 runs for no wicket, Powell and Montcin Hodge (34) posted 69 runs before Hodge was dismissed by left-arm spinner Camarie Boyce in the 11th over.
The Hurricanes slipped to 103 for four wickets in the 20th over, but Powell and captain Jahmar Hamilton (55) added 120 runs for the fifth wicket to keep them on the path to victory. The game took a dramatic turn when Hamilton’s wicket fell with the score at 223 in the 43rd over. Powell and Jeremiah Louis were dismissed without no addition to the score.
Kofi James(14) and Rakkeem Cornwall (10 not out) added 20 runs before James’ wicket fell with four runs required for victory. Off-Spinner Chaim Holder captured three wickets for 38 runs from 10 overs, and fast bowler Jair McAllister and left-arm spinner Camarie Boyce took two wickets apiece.
Over at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, the Windward Islands Volcanoes are on the verge of defeating the Jamaica Scorpions. Chasing 415 to win, the Scorpions were 233 for nine wickets at stumps on the third day.
Aldane Thomas made 55, Abhijai Mansingh contributed 50 and Derval Green got 48. Fast bowler Shermon Lewis was the most successful bowler with four wickets for 22 runs from 14 overs, while medium pacer Justin Greaves and left-arm spinner Larry Babb picked up two wickets.
Meanwhile, at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad, the Guyana Harpy Eagles are in a strong position against Trinidad & Tobago Red Force after declaring at 247 for six wickets. Kemol Savory scored 106 his maiden first-class century and Leon Johnson made 74.
Chasing 412 the Red Force were 106 for three wickets, requiring 306 runs to win the match, the not-out batsmen are Darren Bravo and Jyd Goolie 63 and 14 respectively. Keemo Paul has captured two wickets for 38 runs.
