Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew will travel to the Republic of Ghana this week for an official state visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic, economic and cultural relations between St. Kitts and Nevis and the West African nation.
The visit is expected to focus on expanding cooperation across a range of priority sectors, as both governments move to formalise and deepen engagement. High-level bilateral discussions are scheduled between Prime Minister Drew, Ghana’s President and senior government officials.
Talks will centre on collaboration in education, healthcare, trade and investment, climate resilience, agriculture, youth development and cultural exchange. The discussions are part of a broader strategy to build structured partnerships that support sustainable development and economic growth in both countries.
Several key memoranda of understanding are anticipated during the visit. These include the establishment of a formal political consultation mechanism between the two governments, a visa exemption arrangement for holders of ordinary passports, and a bilateral labour agreement to facilitate the recruitment of Ghanaian medical professionals.
The proposed labour framework is expected to support ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare capacity in St. Kitts and Nevis, while providing professional opportunities for qualified Ghanaian personnel.
The visit underscores a growing emphasis on South-South cooperation and reflects the federation’s continued engagement with African partners in areas of shared historical connection, development priorities and mutual economic interest.
