A teenager was pronounced dead early Sunday following a shootout outside the Climax Sportsbar and Nightclub in Peter’s Rest, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD).
The incident, which occurred just before 5:00 a.m. Sunday, left five wounded and six shot in total, with one of the wounded on life support, the V.I.P.D. reported.
The deceased victim was still on the crime scene — which spans almost the entire stretch of businesses beginning at Royal Furniture from north and FedEx at the bottom — as of 8:00 a.m., with forensic officers sweeping the area in search of clues and evidence as part of their investigation.
According to the V.I.P.D., ShotSpotter, a technology used by the police department to detect gunfire, recorded 77 gunshot rounds, leading to a scramble as law enforcement and emergency personnel dispatched to the area. The 911 Emergency Call Center received the first report at 4:49 a.m., the V.I.P.D. said.
There were no suspects in custody at time of publication, nor had a motive been established. The V.I.P.D. says it is investigating the matter.
