One Dead After Boating Accident Along Nevis Coastline

Police are conducting investigations into a boating accident, off the coast of Nevis, which has left one man dead. The incident occurred on April 19.

The deceased male has been identified as 58-year-old Ishmael Hanley, of Jessups Village.

According to the Police log, the incident happened at approximately 13:45 (1:45 pm). The boat ‘Point Proven’, owned by Islander Water Sports, was sailing along the Nevis coastline, traveling towards the Four Seasons Resort, when the captain felt the impact of something under the boat.

Upon checking, the captain saw a man (later identified as Ishmael Hanley) in the water, waving for assistance, after apparently being struck by the boat’s propeller. The captain assisted Hanley onto the boat and transported him to Charlestown Pier, where Hanley was then transported to the Alexandra Hospital. 

Unfortunately, Hanley succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival, the Police report stated.

At the time of the incident, the boat was approximately five minutes from shore. The captain, with two (2) crew members and seven (7) guests were onboard.
