St. Kitts and Nevis awoke today to the sad news of the passing of music industry giant, Adrian Lam.
He passed away on Sunday evening.
Lam, who is perhaps best known for his contribution to music as a sound engineer, was the Chairman of The Cable at the time of his death and was also the chief sound engineer for the National Assembly of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Following the news of Lam’s passing former prime minister and current Member of Parliament for Constituency #6, Dr. Denzil Douglas, expressed deep sadness at the news of his passing.
“Adrian Lam, Music Icon, has transitioned.
“Personal expressions of support and comfort are extended to Adrian’s dear sister, Sandra, and the rest of the family, on the passing of her dear brother Adrian.
“[I] had the honour and privilege to chat with Adrian just a few weeks ago at the end of our last Parliamentary session.
“Adrian was a good soul, committed to sharing his vast knowledge and experience in music, in mixing and recording, to advance this industry in SKN and the region,” said Dr. Douglas.
MP Konris Maynard, who himself hails from a deeply musical background, also joined in paying warm tribute.
“It is with profound sadness that I say goodbye to the recent past Chairman of The Cable Board and Sound Engineer at our National Assembly, Adrian Lam, who transitioned last night.
“I have known Adrian for practically all of my life because of our link to music! It was Adrian Lam who recorded my first ever calypso song ‘Cool School’ back in 1993 in his Music Studio when I was just 10. He recorded many of my father’s songs. I then grew up to have a studio of my own where he played bass tracks for some of the songs I was recording. We spoke incessantly about sound engineering and music whenever we met.
“Adrian has contributed significantly to our society from Music, to Sound Engineering, to Toucan, to Business, to Walls Bookstore, to Music Festival, to Media, to Parliament, to many other things and he would be greatly missed,” said Maynard in a social media post.
Similar tributes have flooded social media.
Lam was the founder of the Toucan band. He also served for many years as a key producer of the St. Kitts Music Festival where he headed the Talent Committee.
