On Friday, students who put in years of hard work while pursuing further education at the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) campus in St. Kitts crossed the stage, signalling the completion of their academic journey.
The areas of study they completed were wide ranging as the 2024 cohort would successfully have completed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Master of Science by Research, Master of Science by Coursework in One Health, or PhD degrees.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew travelled to Miami, where the ceremony was held, to attend having been invited by RUSVM’s dean, Dr. Sean Callanan. He was further asked to do the university the honour of presenting this year’s commencement speech.
According to a statement issued by the government ahead of the event, Prime Minister Drew said he was “honoured to be a member of the platform party”. It noted that he would use his presentation to emphasise the importance of the graduates’ accomplishments and “the role of education in driving positive change”.
“It is a privilege to join this esteemed gathering and to witness the conferral of degrees upon these deserving graduates. Their dedication and hard work have prepared them to make significant contributions to the field of veterinary medicine and beyond,” said Dr. Drew during the ceremony.
“RUSVM’s presence in St. Kitts is a testament to the strong ties between our Federation and the educational institution and our shared commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering innovation,” the prime minister said.
According to the press statement, “The RUSVM campus in St. Kitts continues to play a vital role in the academic and professional landscape, providing opportunities for students from around the world to excel in veterinary medicine and related fields.”
Since its founding in 1982, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine has graduated more than 7000 veterinarians.
In 2014, RUSVM began offering Master of Science and PhD degrees in public health, global animal health, conservation medicine, and other research areas supported by the St. Kitts-based school.
