The St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) revealed over the weekend that it is moving closer to establishing a permanent home for the 92-year-old organisation.
On Sunday during its annual National Conference, the party’s executive disclosed to its members that progressive meetings have been held to explore acquiring property for the construction of SKNLP National Headquarters.
A party insider told SKN Source that once completed, the envisioned state of the art SKNLP headquarters will be able to facilitate meetings, conferences, social activities, training sessions and other party related activities.
The move to establish a permanent home for the organisation is said to be well supported by its political leader, Dr. Terrance Drew.
A number of locations have been explored, however, it appears that this year’s conference location, Manhattan Gardens in Lime Kiln, has pulled ahead as the front runner.
While the SKNLP has historically shared a space with its sister organisation, the St Kitts Nevis Trades and Labour Union at Masses House in Basseterre, the party said on Sunday that “an extraordinary opportunity” had arisen to acquire the property at Lime Kiln.
The leadership of the organisation said the move would be an important step in securing “a lasting legacy for the oldest political party in the Caribbean” and improve the efficiency of the organisation’s operations.
