Minister of Sports Duggins welcomes the return of Primary School Netball Championship

The St. Kitts Department of Sports (DoS) will tip off the return of the Primary School Netball Championship today, 30th May, 2024.

A total of eight matches take place on the opening day across four zones comprising sixteen schools. The encounters, which start at 3pm and 4pm in each zone, take place at the Village, Sandy Point, Molineaux and Saddlers. 

A statement from Minister of Sports, Samal Duggins’ secretariat noted “the invaluable role that sports play in the lives of our youth” adding that the ministry and DoS are “committed to developing well-rounded individuals in our society”.

“The return of the Primary School Netball Competitions marks a significant milestone in the department’s efforts to foster a supportive and nurturing environment for our youth. The Department of Sports remains dedicated to ensuring that these events not only provide a platform for athletic excellence but also contribute to the overall development of our future citizens,” the press release said.

On Thursday morning ahead of the relaunch of the tournament, Minister Duggins expressed his “strong belief in the power of sports to build character”.

 “Sports have the unique ability to teach discipline, teamwork, and resilience. These are qualities that the Department of Sports aims to instil in our young participants. It is with great joy that I share the action kicks off today, May 30th, 2024. Let’s come together to support our young athletes and work towards building upstanding citizens who can contribute to a more positive and peaceful community,” said Minister Duggins.

The season comprises 59 encounters that will climax with the final between the last two teams standing on 3rd July, 2024 at Warner Park.
