St. Kitts and Nevis is intensifying its efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change as the Climate Action Unit which operates under the umbrella of the Ministry Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment, hosted a 4-day technical training that focused on Low Emissions Analysis Platform (LEAP) from Monday 27 to Thursday 30 May 2024 at the National ICT Center.
LEAP is a tool that is used for energy and climate mitigation planning that helps to strengthen the capacities of relevant ministries and institutions within St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as, private sectors and NGOs, to actively participate in the preparation of mitigation assessments for national communications and Biennial Update Reports as well as develop their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
The training catered to the public and private sectors whose work is connected to the electricity generation and transport subsectors to develop and establish a framework to track St. Kitts and Nevis’ Nationally Determined Contributions and build capacity in relevant areas to conduct projections of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and support sustainable NDC tracking and reporting in the respective fields.
The workshop is supported under the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency Project (ICAT) and by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis through the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment. Consultants from the Caribbean Cooperative Measurement Reporting and Verification Hub (The MRV Hub) facilitated the sessions.
