The Department of Agriculture recently welcomed a group of inquisitive preschoolers from the Diligent Hands Abike Montessori Academy Preschool.
The group of twenty-five students, parents and staff were given a behind the scenes look at the work of the department’s many divisions.
The curious young students learned about the varieties of plants available from the department as well as how they reproduce and grow. They also learned about various livestock animals.
At the end of the tour, they had a better understanding about the importance of agriculture in producing the food they eat.
While making decisions about their future careers is still a long way off, they also learned about the many exciting careers that make up the agriculture industry.
Most importantly, the interactive tour offered the children the opportunity to develop an appreciation for agriculture and environmental stewardship while promoting local food and healthy eating habits.
At the end of the tour, the preschoolers enjoyed a very welcomed treat of locally grown watermelon from the Marketing Unit.
