FedEx pilot, co-pilot escape injury in cargo plane crash at Vance Amory Int’l
Premier Mark Brantley confirmed that a cargo plane owned by FedEx was involved in a crash at the Vance Amory International Airport on Nevis on Tuesday.
Captain Augusto Rosas and his co-pilot, Carlos Ortiz, were reported safe following the incident.
There was also no report of damage to any structures or infrastructure at the airport.
The aircraft, which appears to have experienced mechanical difficulty, was damaged in the incident.
“We had an accident at the Vance Amory International Airport. Shortly after 2:20 in the afternoon. We would have had a plane… air cargo carrier, registration N3732X, transporting cargo for FedEx. And upon landing, it appears that the landing gear was damaged and it caused the tyre to collapse and break apart,” said Premier Brantley on Wednesday.
“The aircraft contained 99 pounds of cargo, two hours worth of fuel, and there were two souls on board,” Brantley continued. “We would have responded with our fire units and our fire equipment and I am pleased to announce that all went well. There was no damage to anyone. There was no further damage to the aircraft.
“The aircraft was stabilised and was towed off the active runway using fire appliance G533, driven by Fire Officer Dore. About a quarter gallon of foam and water were used to wash the oil off the active runway.”
