St. Paul’s Primary wins Department of Sports’ Cricket Championship

The St. Paul’s Primary School is the top cricket school in St. Kitts after securing the Department of Sports’ Primary School Cricket Championship on 3rd July. They defeated the Halliday Smith Primary in an enthralling final.

The tournament signalled a return to competitive cricket for primary schools after a years-long disruption because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Annel Archibald of the Halliday Smith Primary was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. He also accumulated the most runs in the tournament and was named the Most Outstanding Batsman

Other outstanding performances came from:

1. Jaimar Alford, Newton Ground Primary – Most Outstanding Bowler

2. Eden Prentice, Newton Ground Primary – Most Outstanding Fielder

3. Faith Evans, Newton Ground Primary – Most Outstanding Female Player

4. Asher Daniel, Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary- Most Outstanding Wicketkeeper

5. Jaimar Alford, Newton Ground Primary – Most Wickets in a match – (2 overs, 10 runs, 4 wickets) – Jaimar Alford

6. Jaimar Alford, Newton Ground Primary – Most runs in one match (76).

The participating schools were divided into five zones with the final two schools standing selected for the playoff round.

The champion school was commended highly by the Minister of Sport et al., Samal Duggins, who described the just concluded tournament as an integral component in the government’s plan to further use sport as a tool for development.

He also praised the other teams for their display of camaraderie and spirited competitiveness.

The Department of Sports’ coaches continue to spearhead the delivery of instruction in various sporting disciplines within the schools.
