Samal Duggins, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources et al., highlighted his government’s ongoing efforts to achieve food security and sustainability during a recent meeting with a government delegation from the neighbouring island of St. Maarten.
Duggins also widened the channels for both governments to work together through the exchange of knowledge and the implementation of best practices that can lead to enhanced agricultural productivity.
The visiting delegation was led by Grisha Heyliger-Marten, St. Maarten’s minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication.
While sharing St. Kitts and Nevis’ vision for a sustainable agricultural sector, Minister Duggins underscored the importance of economic partnerships. He noted that regional cooperation is necessary to fully achieve the Federation’s agricultural goals.
Minister Heyliger-Marten commended Minister Duggins on the agricultural advancements St. Kitts and Nevis has been able to achieve under his stewardship. She also intimated that the recent meeting was indicative of her country’s commitment to further collaboration with St. Kitts and Nevis.
Minister Duggins has unveiled a number of measures his ministry has undertaken with a view to revolutionising crop production in St. Kitts and Nevis. This includes increased seedling capacity for cash crops and financial and technical support to farmers.
