The annual Department of Sports (St. Kitts) Summer Camp, which began on 15th July, will offer a vital summer activity option for children until 26th July.
The camp is designed to offer coaching instruction across various sports. During the first week (15th – 19th July), participants will receive training in football, cricket, table tennis, basketball, netball, and volleyball.
The second week (22nd – 26th July) will expand to include sessions in swimming, tennis, and golf, alongside the six sport disciplines offered in the first week.
This camp aligns with the ministry’s goal of using sports as a tool for personal and social development.
The camp was officially opened by the Minister of Sport, Samal Duggins, who challenged the students to give their best efforts and to seize the numerous opportunities that sports can offer. Among the opportunities he highlighted were academic scholarships and the chance to represent St. Kitts and Nevis on the regional and international stages.
Minister Duggins also encouraged the participants to emulate the positive examples set by national sports personalities, such as cricketers Mikyle Louis and Jahzara Claxton.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Valencia Syder, echoed similar sentiments as she wished the camp participants a safe two week experience.
Most of this year’s camp sessions will be held in the Warner Park area.
Coaches and staff from the Department of Sport are facilitating the camp.
