St. Kitts and Nevis to host CTU’s 51st Executive Council General Conference of Ministers Meeting and ICT Week

The Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), in collaboration with the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT), has announced that this year’s CTU ICT Week will take place in St. Kitts and Nevis from 30th September to 5th October 2024. 

According to a statement, conference will be held under the theme, Bridging Technologies for a Sustainable and Inclusive Future

The conference, which is being branded as “a pivotal event for the region’s technological advancement” will feature keynote speakers and panellists, including the Prime Minister of Grenada and Chairman of CARICOM, Dickon Mitchell, St. Kitts and Nevis’ Federal Minister of ICT, Konris Maynard, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Doreen Bogdan-Martin and Secretary General of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), Rodney Taylor.

“The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has been focused on using ICT to drive economic growth, improve public services and enhance the overall quality of life for its citizens. I urge everyone to save the date and participate in this crucial dialogue. Your presence and contributions are vital to fostering a sustainable and inclusive future through technology,” said Minister Maynard following the announcement that the St. Kitts and Nevis will host the event.

Similar sentiments were echoed by the CTU’s Secretary General Taylor concerning the conference. 

“We are honoured to host the CTU ICT Week 2024 in St. Kitts and Nevis, a nation that embodies the spirit of leading innovative firsts in pioneering movements. This gathering represents a significant milestone in our collective journey towards advancing ICT development and fostering a collaborative environment for technological progress in the Caribbean,” said Taylor.

According to Permanent Secretary in the ministry responsible for ICT Cheryleann Pemberton, “CTU ICT Week 2024 – St. Kitts and Nevis aims to bring together policymakers, government officials, industry leaders, technology experts, and other stakeholders across the Caribbean and beyond, who will explore digital transformation. The ICT week of activities promises to be an extraordinary gathering, showcasing the latest advancements, and opportunities in the field of ICT. This conference will include platforms for knowledge sharing in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and will also feature a hackathon where the youth of our nation will be involved in software development over a two-day period.”

Participants will also have access to networking opportunities with industry partners which will be useful in exchanging ideas and forging partnerships leading to innovative projects and support.

They will also be introduced to technological advancements and pathways that can address the unique challenges the Caribbean region faces. 

Foras entitled Digital St. Kitts and Digital Nevis are also on the agenda.

While some CTU ICT Week 2024 events such as the CTU Statutory Meeting and the Regulators Forum are closed, other events are open to all stakeholders interested in the future of telecommunications and technology in the Caribbean.
