During the most recent sitting of the National Assembly on 2nd August, the minister responsible for Creative Arts, Samal Duggins, announced that over 50 creatives have benefitted from the Creative Arts Fund to date. The fund, established to provide financial assistance to various creative professionals, has supported craftspeople, musicians, photographers, videographers, and event planners aiming to enhance their skills.
The Creative Arts Fund is part of the government’s broader strategy to build a supportive infrastructure for creatives, fostering the expansion of the Creative Economy. Minister Duggins emphasised the importance of the fund in creating a more cohesive creative sector.
In addition to financial support, the ministry has engaged in one-on-one consultations with hundreds of creatives to gain a deeper understanding of their needs and the challenges they face. This direct engagement is part of the ministry’s efforts to tailor their support and initiatives to meet the specific needs of the creative community.
The government aims to promote local culture and folklore through various channels, including the Creative Economy. One such initiative is the reintroduction of creative elements into schools which aims to connect children with their history.
The upcoming Creative Power Convention, scheduled for the first week of September, is another initiative. This convention will focus on enhancing creative fields such as dance, cultural promotion, music promotion, fashion, and modelling. Approximately 30 facilitators of regional and international acclaim will share their expertise during the event. The convention represents a major capacity building initiative by the Ministry of the Creative Economy and is designed to equip local creatives with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their fields.
Minister Duggins’ announcements underscore the government’s commitment to nurturing the creative sector and ensuring that creatives have the resources and support necessary to thrive.
