In a thrilling conclusion to the 2024 National Bank Group of Companies Premier League, S. L. Horsford’s St. Paul’s United emerged as champions for the seventh time.
They secured their title with a 2 – nil victory over Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis (DBSKN) St. Peter’s in the best of three final series at Warner Park, wrapping it up in just two games on the night of 15th August.
The match saw an early lead for St. Paul’s, who capitalised on an own goal by a St. Peter’s defender just five minutes into the game. Shortly after, Nicquan Phipps seized a loose ball in the penalty area, delivering a powerful shot to double St. Paul’s advantage.
Both teams had multiple chances to alter the score, but St. Paul’s maintained their lead and the final whistle set off jubilant celebrations among their players and fans.
Omar Francis of St. Paul’s was named the final’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), while Tyquan Tyrell of DBSKN St. Peter’s received the regular season MVP award.
The victory solidifies St. Paul’s United’s legacy as one of the premier football teams in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Minister with responsibility for Sport, Samal Duggins, conveyed his commendations to S. L. Horsford’s St. Paul’s United, expressing his admiration for the talent and determination displayed by local footballers. He heralded the club’s achievement as a testament to the strength and potential of sports in the nation.
Among the first to join in the victory celebrations were fervent supporters of the club, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, the Parliamentary Representative Constituency 6 in which St. Paul’s is located, and Senator Joyelle Clarke. Their presence underscored the community’s pride in the team’s remarkable achievement as they celebrated a historic seventh league title.
