As part of St. Kitts and Nevis’ 2024 Independence Celebrations, the Dr. Terrance Drew-led administration brought a Coney Island-style amusement park to the Federation for the enjoyment of the public.
Thousands of families turned out to enjoy the rides, carnival food and entertainment during the park’s operation from 13th September to 6th October, 2024.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, who was joined by Deputy Prime Minister Hanley, visited the park to enjoy the final night on Sunday.
“[I] was happy to see everyone, especially the families, enjoying themselves. I also joined in on the fun and tried some of the rides. A big thank you to the organizers and everyone who contributed to making this a success over the past three weeks,” he said on Monday, sharing his experience.
For many younger people, this was their first time experiencing an amusement park. The last amusement park vi sit to St. Kitts and Nevis was about twenty years ago.
To make the activity accessible and affordable to all, the government heavily subsidised the amusement park. Entrance was free for children and $10 for adults. The cost for rides, attractions and prizes started at $5.
It also provided an excellent economic opportunity for many local business owners who operated food stalls, ice cream trucks, and provided the nightly entertainment throughout the event.
