Agents from the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) and members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office have confiscated more than 320 pounds of various illegal substances over the past weekend in the Dominican Republic.
The extensive raids, which spanned multiple provinces, resulted in the arrest of 874 individuals and the seizure of an impressive array of narcotics, including:
· 258.6 pounds (117.3 kg) of cocaine
· 51.7 pounds (23.5 kg) of marijuana
· 9.8 pounds (4.4 kg) of crack
· 0.81 ounces (23 grams) of hashish
· 406 ecstasy pills
Law enforcement officials also confiscated a substantial number of drug-related paraphernalia and weapons, including 5 firearms, 18 machetes and knives, 5 vehicles, 42 motorcycles, 274 cell phones, 36 communication radios, and 76 scales. Cash in both pesos and dollars was also seized during the raids.
The operation, which aimed to disrupt the sale and consumption of illegal drugs, began in Greater Santo Domingo and expanded to cover numerous provinces, including La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, La Romana, San Pedro, San Cristobal, Peravia, Azua, San Juan, Barahona, Elías Piña, Pedernales, Monsignor Nouel, La Vega, Duarte, Espaillat, María Trinidad Sanchez, and Samaná.
Authorities have announced their intention to “continue to strengthen the joint strategy against illicit drug trafficking, succeeding in improving their operational capacity, in the face of micro trafficking networks, operating in different parts of the country.”
