The government of St. Kitts and Nevis’ 90-Day Campaign Against Crime and Violence, spearheaded by the Citizen Security Secretariat, has seen overwhelming success since its launch on September 6, 2024. With a focus on building partnerships and fostering greater community involvement, the campaign has been well received across the federation.
Key to this initiative has been a series of Community Conversations and consultations, which have drawn high attendance and active participation from citizens and residents. These discussions, which commenced in October, aim to engage communities directly in efforts to address crime and violence, fostering dialogue on safety concerns and exploring solutions for safer neighbourhoods. The conversations will continue into November and will include consultations on Nevis.
Eartha Carey, Coordinator of the Citizen Security Secretariat, expressed her satisfaction with the success of the ongoing consultations. She stated, “I am very pleased with the strong attendance we’ve seen at the Community Conversations. It’s incredibly encouraging to witness the high level of participation and interest from citizens and residents across St. Kitts and Nevis. This engagement is key to fostering a safer and more united St. Kitts and Nevis.”
The 90-Day Campaign aims to create partnerships between various sectors of society, including government, non-governmental organisations, law enforcement, and the public, with the ultimate goal of promoting citizen security by reducing crime through increased community engagement.
The consultations have been praised for offering a platform for people of all ages, including senior citizens and youths, to share their perspectives on crime prevention and personal safety.
As the campaign continues, the government, led by Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, remains committed to deepening its connections with communities and forging partnerships to develop strategies that will lead to lasting change and a safer environment for all residents of St. Kitts and Nevis.
