A nine-year-old boy who sustained a serious injury from a bite while swimming at Frigate Bay Beach on 16th September, 2024, is set to receive crucial medical treatment, thanks to the Children’s Medical Fund, the brainchild charity organisation of Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew.
Having received initial care at the Joseph N. France General Hospital, the young victim will now travel overseas for specialised treatment.
Prime Minister Drew recently visited with the child and his family to check on his recovery. He expressed his gratitude for the collaboration between the Children’s Medical Fund and the Pediatric Assistance League of St. Kitts and Nevis (PALS), which played a pivotal role in arranging the boy’s treatment.
“I thank PALS for their continued commitment to supporting our nation’s children through their partnership with the Children’s Medical Fund,” Dr. Drew stated, acknowledging PALS’s dedicated service in helping local children access essential medical care.
This partnership is proving to be instrumental in supporting children across St. Kitts and Nevis, giving families in need hope and ensuring access to critical medical resources.
Dr. Drew added, “Together, we are making it possible for this young boy to have a chance at a healthy life.”
At the time of the incident the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force confirmed details of the incident, stating, “Medical professionals have since confirmed the presence of bite marks on the boy’s arm, consistent with an attack by a marine animal. The injury is being treated as serious, and the boy remains under close medical care.”
To ensure public safety, the police further noted, “Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and are taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the public. The area around Frigate Bay is being monitored as part of the ongoing investigation, with a focus on identifying any potential dangers in the waters.”
With the Children’s Medical Fund, Dr Drew’s administration continues to provide essential healthcare support for families, reinforcing the government’s commitment to keeping quality healthcare within reach of every child in the Federation.
