Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew Commends Police Co-operative Credit Union’s 40 Years of Financial Empowerment

In a celebration of legacy and future vision, the Police Co-operative Credit Union (PCCU) marked its 40th anniversary with a gala on 26th October, spotlighting its enduring commitment to financial empowerment within the community. The event, held under the theme “Honouring Our Past, Shaping Our Future,” featured Minister of Finance,Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, as keynote speaker.

Reflecting on the PCCU’s contributions, Prime Minister Drew praised the institution’s four-decade journey of advancing financial security and resilience, especially for members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

“Forty years of service is no small achievement. The PCCU has proven time and time again that it is not just a financial institution but a movement—one that empowers, one that uplifts, and one that transforms lives,” he declared, underscoring the positive impact of the PCCU on the well-being of its members and the broader public.

Dr. Drew highlighted the Credit Union’s recent strides in digital transformation, including the introduction of mobile and online banking options. These advancements, he noted, reflect a modernised PCCU ready to serve a tech-savvy generation while remaining committed to accessible, member-focused services.

“By expanding its membership and modernising its services, the PCCU is positioning itself to meet the needs of a new generation, ensuring financial security for every member,” he remarked.

Prime Minister Drew highlighted the link between financial stability and both health and job performance, especially for those in the demanding field of law enforcement. He noted that the pressures associated with financial stress can lead to serious health issues, including cardiovascular disease and mental health struggles. By promoting financial wellness, the PCCU plays a crucial role in reducing these risks, supporting the overall physical and mental health of police officers.

Encouraging the PCCU to remain innovative while rooted in its values, Dr. Drew affirmed, “The PCCU stands as a beacon of stability in our financial landscape and a trusted partner in our national mission to provide financial empowerment for all.”

Established in 1984 to meet the financial needs of police officers, the PCCU has since broadened its reach to serve the wider public, advocating for financial access and community empowerment. Now, the credit union offers a variety of services—from loans to financial education programmes—driving its mission to build a financially resilient and empowered St. Kitts and Nevis for everyone.
