As the highly anticipated Sugar Mas festival approaches, the St. Kitts and Nevis National Carnival Committee and the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force have come together to prioritise public safety, with a collaborative meeting held on 4th November. The goal: ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for everyone partaking in this year’s festivities.
Chaired by Shannon Hawley, the National Carnival Committee underscored the value of a close partnership with law enforcement to uphold safety standards and strengthen festival operations.
“The discussions were productive, emphasising the importance of safety and security during the festive period,” Hawley stated. She also praised the police’s collaborative stance, noting that it “promises to enhance the overall experience for participants and attendees alike.”
With security as a top priority, the Carnival Committee and the police force are focusing on preventive measures to curb anti-social behaviour and promote positive, community-focused celebrations. The Committee aims to reinforce its reputation as an event that balances vibrant cultural expression with the well-being of all attendees.
Also present at the meeting were Commissioner of Police James Sutton, Assistant Commissioner of Police Travis Rogers, and Assistant Commissioner Dr. McArthur Browne, who each offered insights into the upcoming security approach for the Sugar Mas season.
Hawley added, “We are committed to ensuring that this year’s carnival season is not only fun and vibrant but also safe for everyone involved.” This commitment reflects a growing awareness of the role that safety plays in the continued success and reputation of Sugar Mas as a premier cultural event in the Federation.
As festival preparations continue, both the National Carnival Committee and the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force encourage attendees to contribute to a respectful, joyous, and safe celebration. With community support and strategic planning, Sugar Mas 2024 is set to deliver another season of unforgettable, secure festivities.
