As part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening agricultural resilience, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Marine Resources in St. Kitts recently organised a series of impactful insurance consultations for local farmers.
Held on 29th and 30th October, the sessions brought together livestock and crop farmers, Department of Agriculture staff, and other key stakeholders to discuss strategies for managing agricultural risks and safeguarding farmers’ livelihoods.
With a focus on helping farmers navigate the specific challenges in the federation, the consultations offered an in-depth look at agricultural insurance options designed to protect against risks like natural disasters and market instability. Farmers had the opportunity to explore various insurance products, learning about best practices for selecting coverage suited to their needs and maximising the value of their policies.
Led by Permanent Secretary Miguel Flemming, the sessions highlighted the critical role insurance can play in creating a resilient agricultural sector. Through interactive discussions, participants shared insights and gained valuable guidance on how to secure their investments and ensure long-term stability.
Feedback from attendees underscored a strong interest in further education on agricultural insurance, with many expressing that these consultations mark a crucial first step in fostering a more robust agricultural industry. Farmers noted the value of the sessions in equipping them with knowledge to make informed decisions that will better protect their income and operations against unforeseen setbacks.
The Ministry’s initiative to facilitate these discussions underscores its dedication to empowering farmers and supporting a sustainable agricultural future in St. Kitts.
