The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis recently celebrated American Airlines’ two decades of non-stop service connecting Miami to the Robert L. Bradshaw (RLB) International Airport, a milestone that has greatly boosted the nation’s tourism and international connectivity.
During the 4th November, 2024 festivities, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew joined American Airlines officials, government ministers, and tourism stakeholders at the Kayan Jet Lounge to celebrate this milestone, cutting a commemorative cake and toasting to the enduring partnership.
During his remarks, Prime Minister Drew expressed gratitude to American Airlines for its role in advancing the Federation’s tourism industry, calling the airline a “catalyst for our nation’s development.” He emphasised that American Airlines’ early decision to connect St. Kitts with major international markets helped elevate the island’s position as a sought-after Caribbean destination.
“Since American Airlines first established service to St. Kitts and Nevis two decades ago, it has not only opened new pathways for travel and tourism but has also created incredible opportunities for local development,” Dr. Drew stated. “Tourism remains a cornerstone of our economy, and partnerships like this are vital to our nation’s progress and prosperity.”
Prime Minister Drew highlighted the importance of nurturing international partnerships to support St. Kitts and Nevis’ growth, adding that such relationships benefit not only tourism but also trade, cultural exchange, and local business. He praised American Airlines for its consistent support and mutual respect, qualities that align with the government’s vision for progress.
Also present at the event were Marsha Henderson, Minister of Tourism; Senior Minister Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, who was prime minister when American Airlines first launched its service to the Federation; and various members of the Federal Cabinet, ambassadors, and tourism officials including Tivanna Wharton, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, and Kelly Fontenelle, CEO of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority.
American Airlines’ 20-year commitment to St. Kitts and Nevis underscores the growing appeal of the island as a premier travel destination and reinforces the nation’s dedication to forging strong international alliances.
