PM Drew Rededicates Keys Community Centre to Honour Louise Phillips Jones

The Keys community celebrated a milestone on November 10th with the renaming of the Keys Community Centre, now known as the Louise Phillips Jones Multi-Purpose Centre.

The rededication, led by Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, honoured the legacy of Louise Phillips Jones, an admired teacher and community leader whose decades of service enriched the lives of countless residents in Keys Village.

Prime Minister Drew, who represents Constituency Eight, praised Mrs. Jones’s enduring impact. “Her contributions are woven into the very fabric of Keys,” he remarked. A beloved educator, Mrs. Jones not only shaped young minds but also instilled a strong sense of community among her students, many of whom have grown into key members of the village. “This building is a tribute to the patience, dedication, and love she shared with so many,” he added.

A Community-Led Transformation

Over the years, the facility, which initially served as a primary school where Mrs. Jones taught, had fallen into disrepair. Its revitalisation was a community-driven project led by a committee of Keys residents who aimed to restore the building as a tribute to Mrs. Jones. Prime Minister Drew acknowledged the efforts of Mr. Dominic Steven and other community members, noting that “almost every aspect of the centre’s transformation was led by the people of Keys.” The renovations, from painting to construction, involved local labour, showing the collective dedication to honouring a cherished community member.

A Hub for Growth and Engagement

With its renovation and rededication, the Louise Phillips Jones Multi-Purpose Centre will serve as a versatile facility for community needs. The centre is set to host after-school programmes, community gatherings, sports events, and learning opportunities, ensuring that it remains an active part of village life for generations to come. Dr. Drew encouraged other communities to look to Keys Village as a model of unity and collaboration in the face of shared challenges.

Looking ahead, the centre stands not only as a tribute to Louise Phillips Jones but also as a beacon for community engagement and growth, inspiring a legacy of service, resilience, and unity across St. Kitts and Nevis.
