Over the weekend, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew issued a strong call to action for men across St. Kitts and Nevis to prioritise their health. Speaking ahead of International Men’s Day, observed annually on 19th November, Dr. Drew highlighted the launch of a dedicated men’s clinic at the Joseph N. France (JNF) General Hospital and the appointment of a full-time urologist as transformative steps in addressing long-neglected issues in men’s healthcare.
“For far too long, men’s health has been overlooked,” said Dr. Drew. “This clinic is about ensuring our men have access to the care they need when they need it. Early detection and intervention can save lives, particularly in cases of prostate cancer and other serious conditions.”
Tailored Care for Men’s Unique Needs
The clinic offers specialised services, including prostate exams, screenings for testicular and bladder conditions, and treatments for urinary and reproductive health. With the full-time availability of a urologist, residents can now access critical specialist care without delays or the need for travel abroad.
Dr. Drew emphasised that the initiative goes beyond treatment to focus on prevention.
“This clinic is an invitation for men to take control of their health,: he said. “Prostate cancer, for example, is highly treatable when detected early. I urge all men to take advantage of this resource and ensure their health is a priority.”
Aligning with International Men’s Day Goals
The clinic’s opening aligns with the goals of International Men’s Day, which aims to address health challenges faced by men globally while promoting positive male role models and fostering stronger communities.
Strengthening the Federation’s Healthcare System
This new service is part of the government’s broader efforts to build a resilient and inclusive healthcare system in St. Kitts and Nevis. By addressing gender-specific health disparities, the initiative aims to encourage early diagnosis, reduce mortality rates, and foster a proactive approach to health among men.
A Call to Action
As International Men’s Day is observed today under the theme Men’s Health Champions, Dr. Drew reiterated his appeal to men across the Federation to prioritise their well-being.
“Your health matters. Don’t wait for symptoms or emergencies. Visit the clinic, get checked, and take the first step towards a healthier future for yourself and your families.”
With this innovative facility and the government’s commitment to healthcare advancements, the men’s clinic signals a new chapter in supporting the health and well-being of men in St. Kitts and Nevis.
