Excitement for Sugar Mas 53 has reached new heights as finalists for the Digicel Groovy and Power Soca Monarch competitions were revealed over the weekend. The announcements followed two thrilling nights of performances at Champions Bar, Port Zante, where 32 artists showcased their talents in front of enthusiastic crowds.
The Groovy Soca semi-finals, held on Saturday, 23rd November, marked the return of the segment after a hiatus last year. Sixteen performers brought soulful energy and smooth rhythms to the stage, with eight artists advancing to the finals. The Digicel Groovy Soca Monarch finalists are:
- Jazzbo & Tobap – Bottle of Rum
- Ras Kelly – In De Mas
- KT Dan – Kyats & Dogs
- Delly Ranks – Celebration
- Luck Boss – Party
- Shanna – Part of Me
- Daddy2Sec – Rhythm Section
- Mr Hype – Boopsin Again
- Alternate: Jervin V – Love De Carnival
The Power Soca segment electrified the stage on Friday, 22nd November, with high-energy performances. Eight finalists emerged, promising an intense showdown at the finals. They are:
- AkaiiUSweet & Tobap – Wicked
- Riktik – On de Block
- Jazzbo – Pure Sweetness
- Jervin V & 5 Star Pino – Soca Zombie
- Luck Boss – Exercise
- Klymate & Tazzy G – Not Going Home
- KT Dan – Kittitian Style
- Alternate: Brandon & Chárnelle – Love and Light
The reigning Soca King, Ras Kelly, will also compete, aiming to defend his title during the finals on Saturday, 14th December, 2024.
Chairperson of the Soca Sub-committee, Asqwith Watson, announced prize details at a recent Sugar Mas press conference. Winners of the Power and Groovy Soca Monarch competitions will each receive $20,000, with $10,000 and $8,000 awarded to the first and second runners-up, respectively.
Watson promised a night of “great music, vocals, and invigorating performances” and encouraged the public to attend and support the festivities.
With the finalists set and excitement building, this year’s Soca Monarch finals promise to deliver unforgettable performances and crown the best in Kittitian and Nevisian Soca artistry.
