2024 Wahoo Tournament Highlights Fishing Talent and Cultural Pride

The 2024 St. Kitts and Nevis Wahoo Tournament has been lauded as an outstanding success by Samal Duggins, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Cooperatives. Held on 24th November, the event celebrated the expertise of local fisherfolk and their invaluable contributions to the nation’s economy and culture.

One of the standout moments was the capture of a massive 648.5-pound shark by fisherman Rashawn Marshall and his team in Old Road. Minister Duggins called the catch a testament to the skill and dedication of the country’s fishing community.

“This year’s Wahoo Tournament was a brilliant showcase of talent, camaraderie, and cultural celebration,” said Duggins. He noted that the event was much more than a fishing competition, as attendees were treated to folklore performances that highlighted the vibrant cultural heritage of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Looking ahead, the Minister encouraged the public to anticipate an even bigger and more thrilling event in 2025, reiterating the government’s commitment to supporting the fishing industry and celebrating the community’s achievements.

The Wahoo Tournament continues to serve as a vital platform for honouring the rich traditions of St. Kitts and Nevis while strengthening the fisheries sector and fostering community pride.
