Labour Government Advances Housing Revolution with Climate-Smart Homes and Resilient Communities

The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration continues to redefine housing development in the Federation, with 20 climate-smart homes currently under construction in Ottley’s. Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, joined by Ambassador Leon Natta-Nelson and East Coast Development leadership, toured the project over the weekend with representatives of the East Coast Housing Scheme who are tasked with delivering 2,400 homes by 2027.

“This initiative not only creates jobs but also provides our people with sustainable housing solutions,” remarked Dr. Drew, commending Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley and agencies like the National Housing Corporation (NHC), SKELEC, and Sustainable Development for their contributions.

Since the Drew administration came to office in August 2022, the NHC has delivered 110 homes, far surpassing the previous administration’s efforts. Housing Minister Dr. Hanley praised the NHC’s achievements, noting, “Facts speak for themselves. The commitment to delivering resilient homes remains unwavering, despite challenges.”

The rollout of advanced construction techniques is equipping local contractors with the skills needed to build homes in areas like Newton Ground, Stapleton, and Sandy Point, reinforcing a vision for sustainable community development. Complementing this effort, the Vulnerable Household Repair Assistance Programme has enhanced housing conditions for many, with material support valued at $17,000 per household.

As part of a comprehensive housing revolution, the Labour government’s initiatives reflect its dedication to improving living standards and fostering resilience.

The Ottley’s project, is the government’s latest demonstration of its commitment to redefine housing standards across the Federation.
