Drew Administration Delivers on Promise to Provide New CT Equipment at JNF Hospital

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Dr. Terrance Drew, is making significant strides in improving healthcare infrastructure with the installation of a state-of-the-art 128-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner at the Joseph N. France General Hospital (JNF). As of 11th December, 2024, the new CT scanner, which includes an advanced injector for cardiac imaging, is being installed, fulfilling a key promise made to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The Need for Advanced Healthcare Technology

Healthcare services in St. Kitts and Nevis are set to experience a major upgrade with the introduction of this lifesaving CT equipment. Prime Minister Drew has underscored the importance of these medical advancements, highlighting that the installation of the CT scanner is a crucial step towards improving diagnostic capabilities, especially for patients with cardiac conditions.

“This CT scan will enable us to provide enhanced cardiac imaging services that were previously unavailable,” said Dr. Drew. The new equipment is expected to significantly boost the nation’s ability to diagnose and treat complex medical conditions, especially in cases that require detailed imaging of the heart.

Commitment to Healthcare Progress

Dr. Drew has been actively overseeing the project’s progress, making regular visits to the JNF Hospital to stay informed on each stage of development. His hands-on approach ensures that the upgrade of the facility is on track, with the CT scanner slated to be fully operational before the end of the year, fulfilling a promise made by his administration.

As Dr. Drew noted in an October edition of The Roundtable, the CT scanner installation is just one part of a larger effort to modernise the country’s healthcare system. The advanced machine, which includes the injector for cardiac imaging, will make it possible for healthcare professionals to offer a wider range of diagnostic services, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

A Broader Vision for St. Kitts and Nevis’ Healthcare Future

The CT scanner is part of a larger healthcare infrastructure upgrade being spearheaded by the Drew administration. A new MRI facility is also under construction at JNF Hospital. The MRI machine, which is expected to be installed in the first quarter of 2025, will further expand the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities. Together, the CT scanner and MRI equipment will revolutionise the diagnostic services available at the island’s main healthcare facility.

Prime Minister Dr. Drew has emphasised that the introduction of these new technologies is in line with his administration’s commitment to modernising healthcare in St. Kitts and Nevis. “This is about ensuring that our people have access to the best possible healthcare services,” said Dr. Drew. “We are working towards a future where our healthcare system is equipped to provide top-tier services, and these improvements are a key part of that vision.”

Looking Ahead

The introduction of the new CT scanner and MRI facility marks a significant step forward for St. Kitts and Nevis’ healthcare system. With these advancements, the country is poised to offer better diagnostic services, improve treatment outcomes, and enhance the overall quality of care for its citizens. The ongoing upgrades to JNF Hospital are a testament to the government’s dedication to improving public health services and ensuring that modern healthcare technologies are accessible to all.
