The St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) celebrated a landmark occasion during its Annual Christmas Luncheon on 20th December, 2024, with the commissioning of five officers and the recognition of outstanding service within its ranks. Minister of National Security, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, presided over the event, which highlighted the dedication and professionalism of the nation’s Defence Force.
During the ceremony, Second Lieutenants Lakeem Crosse, Mario O’Flerharty, Jelani Griffin, and Jon-Lewin Watson officially received their badges of rank. Additionally, First Lieutenant Percival Thomas was promoted from his previous rank of Second Lieutenant. Prime Minister Drew, alongside Acting Force Commander Major Kayode Sutton, personally congratulated the newly elevated officers.
“The elevation of these officers is a reflection of their commitment, discipline, and tireless service to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis,” Dr. Drew remarked. “Their achievements today are a testament to their dedication and to the strength and integrity of our Defence Force.”
Recognising Excellence and Fostering Unity
Major Sutton commended the officers and ranks for their unwavering dedication throughout the year, announcing that incentives would be introduced to reward exceptional performance in the future. The event also saw Private Gumbs J. and Lance Corporal Stanley R. receiving the prestigious Soldier and Sailor of the Year 2024 awards, recognising their exemplary contributions to the Defence Force.
The ceremony, deeply rooted in tradition, was attended by key figures including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security Glenroy Blanchette and National Security Advisor Lionel Rawlins. In a symbolic gesture, the Force Orderly Sergeant marked the occasion with a ceremonial drink, signalling the start of the Christmas luncheon.
Prime Minister Drew, along with senior and junior officers, reinforced the spirit of camaraderie by serving lunch to the rank and file, fostering a sense of unity and mutual respect within the Force.

This year’s Annual Christmas Luncheon not only celebrated the personal accomplishments of SKNDF members but also underscored the values of service, teamwork, and excellence. With new officers commissioned and outstanding personnel recognised, the Defence Force continues to stand as a pillar of security and dedication for the nation.
