John Street Man Charged in Shocking Double Murder of Devon Parris and J’Marni Smithen

Jesus Valdez of John Street, Newtown, has been charged with two counts of murder relating to the tragic deaths of 30-year-old Devon Parris and 9-year-old J’Marni Smithen. This development follows an earlier charge against Valdez for another murder earlier this year.

The additional charges were filed on 23rd December at the Basseterre Police Station, intensifying public focus on the case. The victims, Parris and Smithen, were last seen on the evening of 1st August 2024 when they left a family member’s residence to attend a birthday party at Caribbean Cinemas but never arrived.

Their disappearance raised alarm, leading to a search that ended the following morning when their vehicle, a red Honda Fit, was found concealed in bushes near Newton Ground Bay. Both Parris and Smithen were discovered inside, with gunshot wounds to the head.

This grim case follows Valdez’s prior charge on 12th December for the murder of 18-year-old Crisbel Rivera of Carty Alley. This incident is alledged to have occurred on 17th April 2024.

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is actively pursuing leads in the investigation and has called on the public for assistance. Authorities emphasise that any information, no matter how small, could be crucial in uncovering the truth behind these violent crimes.

The shocking nature of this double homicide has left the community reeling, particularly due to the tender age of one of the victims.

Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact the closest police station or provide anonymous tips via the Crime Stoppers hotline at 18008477 or via the website at www.crimestoppers.kn .

As investigations continue, law enforcement officials reaffirm their commitment to delivering justice for the victims and their grieving families.
