An elderly man in his 70s was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive in the water at Simpson Bay Beach near Palms Condos around noon today.
Nearby swimmers pulled the man ashore and attempted first aid before emergency services arrived.
Despite resuscitation efforts by paramedics and police, the victim was deceased.
The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) has dispatched forensic investigators to the scene.
Police extend condolences to the family and remind beachgoers to exercise water safety precautions.
